The Innovation and Research Training of the China Construction Eighth Bureau Investment Development Company organized by the Brand Planning ICON Company of Shanghaiwas successfully held in Shanghai on May 10 and 11, 2019. Thierry Melot, French architect and president of the Franco-Chinese Institute of Architecture and Urban and Rural Sustainable Development (IFADUR) France, was invited by the Brand Planning ICON Company of Shanghai to give two speeches: "Sustainable City: Strategies and Experiences " and " Business Model Group Vinci Case Studies ". Liguo LI, president of the Franco-Chinese Institute of Architecture and Urban and Rural Sustainable Development (IFADUR) China, was also invited and insured the simultaneous interpretation (French-Chinese) of these two speeches.
Firstly, Thierry Melot explained the relations between theories of the sustainable city and its practices during his first speech. And then he introduced his ten strategic principles of the sustainable city: First principle: "Introspect the Future"; Second principle: "Coproduce, interpenetrate territories" Third principle: "Create the city from public transport network"; Fourth principle: "Densify the city around the transfer nodes"; Fifth principle: "develop urban porosity"; Sixth principle: " Promoteproximity and diversity"; Seventh principle: "Encourage energy self-sufficiency "; Principle 8: "manage the resilience of water"; Ninth principle: " Give the urban sense through founding acts"; Tenth principle: "Enhance identity of neighborhoods".
During his second speech " Business Model Group Vinci Case Studies ", Thierry Melot mainly presented the business model of the Vinci group and their cooperation. Firslty Thierry Melot presented the unique history of the Vinci group, important figures in 2018, its activities, etc.. Then Thierry Melot shared his collaborative projects with Vinci such as the Mantes University project from 2007 to 2012, the Cité Administrative Bordeaux project in 2010 and the master plan of development of the new city of South Ashgabat in Turkmenistan project from 2012 to 2013.
At the end of his second speech, the participants exchanged some points of view on these two topics, and obtained a deeper understanding about the innovative approaches of sustainable city in these two countries. This could be a new starting point for the future dialogues and cooperation between IFADUR and the China Construction Eighth Bureau Investment Development Company.
